Dear Skye,
I’m sorry for what happened yesterday, for what should have been a special and momentous day in your life was ruined by some horrible men on social media.
It was so bad that the club had to remove the post.
Some men behind a screen typing a comment about your appearance, it’s completely unacceptable and sickening, it makes me angry just thinking about it.
Firstly, to those that post something like this on social media, it’s shocking that they’ve….
– thought this in the first place
– picked up their phone and typed it up
– and finally thought, yes I think it’s a good idea to press post
Unreal 🤦♂️
And especially after quite a few of the male gender were trying to put the lionesses down all through the tournament, and even after winning the tournament.
What about your sister, daughter, niece, grandchild?
Would you want someone to put them down? Make them feel awful and that they aren’t good enough?
It’s not even about women, it’s about people and humans in general.
Regardless of gender, race, sexuality, appearance etc EVERYBODY should be treated, supported and encouraged the same.
Everyone should be trying to build others up, help them and try to make their goals, dreams and aspirations achievable.
Don’t try and tear them down, make them feel not good enough and that they can’t achieve things.
I personally don’t care what the sport, job, industry etc, everyone is equal, regardless of gender, there will be many women out there that will 100% be better than me in every job or sport, including football, and I’m really not bothered and quite frankly I encourage, praise and celebrate it.
I want people to be the best they can, and if that means they’re better than me and it’s a woman, then that’s fine, I love to see both genders doing well.
And like most things, it’s starts when kids are young or grassroots, you support, help, encourage, praise and give them everything they need to achieve whatever they can.
Even if it turns out to just be a hobby, it still applies, people perform best when they’re happy, relaxed and feeling comfortable and confident.
It applies to sport and other industries, whether it’s hobbies or work, the better you treat people, the better they perform and if they’re an employee, the more they achieve for you.
So if, for some reason, you’re thinking those thoughts and have those opinions, then please keep them to yourself, I think it’s time you changed those opinions and for what might be a throwaway comment for you, might do some serious damage to others.
And to all the women and people that are subject to negative people, I know it’s difficult, especially with social media, but do your best to ignore them and focus on yourself and being and doing the best you can, you’ve got this 💪
I’m so sorry Skye, and I really do hope you’ve got the support from your family, friends and football club to be able to get through this difficult time, and come out stronger.
My emails and DMs are always open for those struggling.
Take care Skye and I hope to be see on the football field with a smile on your face whilst doing what you love soon 🫂💚⚽️
