Two weeks ago I got a message from the Club Doncaster events team to say that there was a space for me to represent MHFC at the Partners Play on the Pitch game.
This was a game where employees from partners of DRFC would play against employees from Pass Logistics and there was a space for me to join the partner’s team.
Of course, I was extremely excited and thankful for this opportunity, but I was also extremely anxious about it.
The day before and the day of the game, I was very anxious, but I managed to keep control of the anxiety, and the anxiety quickly changed to excitement.
The time of arrival for the game was 6pm and events, especially ones like this that I’m anxious about, I just want to get going and that’s why I prefer them in the morning so I can get on with them and there’s no waiting and time for the anxiety to build.
But again, I managed to control it, there were 60 players, 30 on each team and I only knew one person but again, thankfully I kept the anxiety of new people down.
Even though there were a lot of players, credit has to go to the managers as they did so well to give everyone a decent run out 👏
I played the first 45mins and was really happy to get the second goal of the game, and even more happy as I scored at the Black Bank end, and then I also found out it was in front of Joseph Olowu who was in the crowd watching, who’s a supporter of MHFC 🤯
In the end, our team won 6-1 I believe, but it was such a good game with good vibes.
After the game, it was great to head over to the hospitality lounge to have pizza, chips and drinks.
Thank you to Gaynor’s lovely family for inviting me to sit at their table, what a great group of people, it was lovely to meet them all and have a good chat and laugh.
It would’ve been good to have my family there to watch the game and have something to eat, but I didn’t want to put more pressure on myself.
Sometimes I feel more pressure when family or friends are attending something as I fear panicking, not going ahead with it and making it a wasted journey for them.
It also would put more anxiety on me, so I would enjoy the event as much, and there would be a greater chance of me panicking and not going ahead with it.
It’s a shame and something I’m trying to work on, I managed to successfully invite my Dad to the DRFC box hospitality we did previously, and before I would’ve struggled a lot with that, so I am slowly improving.
Massive well done to the Club Doncaster events team for such a good event and thanks again for involving me and MHFC, what an experience and evening 🙌
Grant McCann, you know where I am if you can’t sign Rob Street and struggle to replace him 😉😂
Thank you to Joseph Olowu for signing my MHFC shirt and having a photo with me.
There was a photographer during the game, so hopefully I’ll be able to share a few of those photos when they’re ready.
